Kind of not very plausible (sidenote to Melancholy Prostitutes from two articles ago)

By the way, Mr. Marquez: when you write your old character has been blessed by the God Priapus and there's a scene in which a young maid is humped from behind without any warning or any lubrikant and you say she only shivered once and bravely stood until it was over, you clearly don't know much about either. No young maiden being ravaged by a hung old man just 'shivers once and bravely takes it'. It just isn't how that one works.

Fox Vs. Jolie for Barbarella remake? Really??

This is a great description of the plot: After an in-flight anti-gravity striptease (masked by the film's opening titles), Barbarella, a 41st century astronaut, lands on the planet Lythion and sets out to find the evil Durand Durand in the city of Sogo, where a new sin is invented every hour. There, she encounters such objects as the Exessive Machine, a genuine sex organ on which an accomplished artist of the keyboard, in this case, Durand Durand himself, can drive a victim to death by pleasure, a lesbian queen who, in her dream chamber, can make her fantasies take form, and a group of ladies smoking a giant hookah which, via a poor victim struggling in its glass globe, dispenses Essance of Man. You can't help but be impressed by the special effects crew and the various ways that were found to tear off what few clothes our heroine seemed to possess. Based on the popular French comic strip.
None of it, though, would have worked without the excellent performance from Jane Fonda who, at the time, literally embodied everything that's great about earthling females. Down to her last tiny imperfection, she was (and somewhat still is) perfect. Even in this sex crazed role. Even in some other sex-based roles, like Klute. But the fact that this spacey soft core is so hilarious, relies solo on her innocence and cuteness. Even though B. humbs everything that throws a shadow, it's adorable, because she is so clumsy, naive and darling about it.

And then they want to do a remake and cast a good looking bad actress who makes makes porn stars seem modest:

Or a woman, who is much too old and looks like a depleted sex doll to begin with?

Both of which have played their 'i'm basically just fuck-me-cheap on legs" roles to their maximum several times over. I mean, what would Jolie as Barbarella be? A blonder Lara Croft?

I really hope they don't fuck up that classic with this kind of casting. "Ooh, look, I'm a sex symbol, I should be perfect for playing a sex symbol! I'll just stand there and PR will do the rest!" Everyone loves Barbarella. Leave it alone!

Reading ...

Its really hot. Really really hot. Fairly everyone is feeling a bit sick and the weather-peeps never say it's 40°C outside, they always say it's 39 :))) (Hint: it's forty plus.) That's the magical limit for people being able to refuse to work if their conditions aren't met with humane temperatures. But anyways. 'Tis certainly the season to read a lot. I've gotten myself into another debate about North Korea, under the CNN reportage that, again, seemed retarded crap to me. I used longer words, but responses have been hitting me ever since. Sorry, there is no force in the world that will convince me that because a country is poor, it is evil. I've gotten into this shitty discussion too many times.

Imagine though - imagine those poor bastards suddenly got their censorship lifted and they could tune into our regular cable. Expecting preparation for invasions and Sodoma and Gomora everywhere, as they've been told the rest of the world is, these are the shows they would be hit with: some dude fishing, a bunch of weird dudes fixing cars and bikes, how golf balls/icecream/keyboards are made, a couple of dudes cooking. A guy talking to dogs. Who's the next top model or singing/dancing talent. Geordi shore.

Suddenly Kim Jong-un wouldn't seem so weird anymore.

Meanwhile.
Reading, reading, reading. How I love to do that. Even more than write, oddly enough. Or perhaps the exact same. Most of the time I suspect i love to write stuff just so that i can read it later. :D
That's actually like kissing and sex. I like my kissing very soft, very fleshy, lenghtily, lots of different moves, very tender touching during. I could do it for hours. (Even though the moustache on my habibsy kind of feels like barbed wire after a while.) Sex, though, I like angry, violent, overwhelming and dissarming. Almost on the verge of dangerous. Which one do I like better? Come on. No such thing as an answer to that.

Kershaw's Hitler is slow going since we've gotten to his post-coup era. Many names, many long speeches and bloated propaganda. It's lame going and all the while you think this could still go wrong - he could still fuck up beyond salvation and just trickle into oblivium. Alas, For reasons uncomprehendable, he just keeps coming out on top.

The Memoirs of my Meloncholy Whores actually ended on a positive note! (Yes, I actually read it to the end. Second book this year!) Although the ancient dude and his teenage love never actually meet, as they are never awake at the same time, it's indeed a passionate love affair and an amazing book. For such a small volume, it fills you up like a truck-full of hot soda.

I've switched to Walt Whitman's Blades of Grass after it, because it felt similar and I wanted to continue in the tone. It's a lot sadder, for sure, but rich the same.

And now it seems to me the beautiful uncut hair of graves.

Tenderly will I use you curling grass,

It may be you transpire from the breasts of young men,

It may be if I had known them I would have loved them,

It may be you are from old people, or from offspring taken soon out of their mothers’ laps,

And here you are the mothers’ laps.

This grass is very dark to be from the white heads of old mothers,

Darker than the colorless beards of old men

I'm thinking love isn't a very popular notion at this point. It's something shamefull to say you love someone. (Unless it's mum and dad or kids or spouse or puppy. On, in some regions, politicians or religious icons.) It feels like you're posing. I've oft seen Arab men hold hands when they walk. You'd probably be spat on if you did that here. For two men to love one another, everyone would instantly connect that to frustrated sexual inadequacy. Still. Surely several men must have loved one another, without wanting to take one another's clothes or wigs off? That is such a lovely emotion, but somehow we've managed to make it so dirty.

Dad still cuts articles from newspapers out for me and he cut me a piece about two old men fighting over their supremacy in the philosophical arenas: N. Chomsky, the self proclaimed greatest philosopher of our time, and S. Žižek, the Elvis of philosophers of any time. They're a pair of old hens and that's how they bicker. Chomsky picked up on the negative press that Žižek is a poser and a left-party fashist and Žižek replied that the next time Chomsky writes a disertation saying the Kmer Rouche didn't seem to be such bad fellas (he didn't catch the part where they tortured and murdered a few million innocent people), he should probably invoke some wit, if he has any. One is dull and the other is too pompous. ah, philosophy. How I enjoy thee.

Stargazers

Damn and rats, but how I forgot I love astronomy. You'd think having written a 700 page space odyssey, it would be obvious, but last night all we did was stare at the dots in the sky and listen to people talk about them and I almost had a mental orgasm. There was a lady who said such great, nice things about a sister stars, dancing one around the other, one golden and one sapphire and then we saw them though the big fat telescopes and I nearly cried. These are such, such magnificent things. All too amazing things. Even from solid ground, they are extraordinary. The remnants of dead stars, clouds of dust that may eventually become building stones of life or just the good old Saturn, flying fat and tilted, the primadonna. I regret being such an amateur. It would be shameful to join such a group, because I really don't know anything about anything. Small world, though: one of the lecturer ladies teaches Rockstar math and another used to teach me biology when I was in high school.

Blaž, the nephew-in-law was my assistant last night. I badly require a remote bulb trigger for Marki, as last night I only had Blaž to hold the button down for minutes at a time, while I went from one station to the other and observed stuff. Thanks to the in-law family, for letting me tag along! That was a truly cool night!

This was the constelations of Bowman and Scorpio, I think. There were less stars when we looked at them, camera caught few more..

This was from the school yard. The school has an observatorium dome. *hint*birthday*coming*up*hint*

There was a couple, looking at a phone-google-stars-ap, standing in front of the camera, which made for such a cool shot

One of the stations, this one pointing at the twin stars of Albireo, Beta Cygni

Another station, showing Saturn. Scorpio behind it.

The glow of Croatian capital Zagreb in the far distance and the Milky Way

Watching the Conjuring. I'm thinking, if a demon came to posess one of our animals, it would take one look at Tove and say: fuck this! I got standards!

Lake koncert night thingie

... En route to the Stargazing event, we stopped at a lakeside concert. There was a little girl who sang Amy Winehouse songs and the band did cool (and loud, so I mostly just heard noise) summer songs :D Really cute. Big bang Šentjur in smaller frame was playing, I think. Dunno who the girl was. She was cool. Which was great, as the weather was so hot everyone was melting. Except the mosquitoes.

Byzantium ... An almost good movie

There was so much I liked about this film and am glad Neil Jordan is back in his element - particularly in the way he portrays places as characters in his narrative ... The scenery, photography, casting, acting, costumes, music, all that was top notch. The script, on the other hand, could have been a lot better. I think. In fact for most of the time I felt like ideas came to forks and instead of choosing the right course, they chose the opposite.
Also, I had a problem with Gemma Arterton as Clara. If you are going to portray a worn out whore with consumption, stretched thin over centuries, timelessly beautiful but spent, I would probably bet on the likes of Carrie Ann Moss or Rebecca Hall, even. The fleshy, ridiculously energetic and absurdly beautiful Arterton just seemed kind of .. Always just one step away from being the queen of Canada or something.
But anyways. The things that I would have done so differently.
First of all, I wouldn't show any of the killing. Any. I wouldn't even show any of the blood. I would just leave those scenes three fourths in and let the viewer linger in the uncomfortable feeling that the pretty little girl didn't just kindly socialise with all those old people, but did in fact, you know, eat them. And the pimb killed on the beach - they could leave it as a scene, mistaken for passionate sex. You'd realise eventually, by the lack of him, what truly transpired.
Second of all, that Brotherhood, what the fuck was that. I don't even care what those were supposed to be. They were stupid. They only accepted posh dudes and that sicko captain was an eligible candidate? The syphilitic child rapist body looter? That's okay, but women they had a problem with? I would cut all of those just out. I would just leave them as an ominous force. Maybe even at the end. The girl would just see two ugly old dudes try to kill her mum. There wouldn't be lame dialogue all over it and graphic close-ups. Even the scene with the social worker - I would have preferred her to start suspecting something is terribly wrong and just flee and then be killed or not even that. Just flee the car, perplexed at the creeping feeling crawling up her spine. At least then their theory of weakness of women would have been reasonable.
The dialogue. Eh. Okay. For all their ethereal beauty and lost-ness, they COULD talk a little better. Like the handwriting and the Beethoven... I would enjoy a silver-tongued hooker. You don't get many of those these days.
I did wish they would come full circle with the hotel - that Clara would eventually remember this was the whorehouse she grew old in. Because I love what they've done with the school.
The scene at Frank's birthday - when he tells Ella she can kill him right there... Really? For his pregnant mother to find him butchered? That made sense, yeah.

The one thing I liked above all else, though, was the make up on Saoirse Roman's face. When she is talking to the first old guy she eats, she is soooooo surreal, so pale and un-alive and like a statue of salt. but after she eats him, even though she doesn't like it, she is suddenly a lot more colourful. It's the most subtle change you'll see. But it's as tragic as it is perfection.

ANTM20

The latest American NTM has started. Boys and girls this time. Girls, as always, are adorable. Am sad to see the transgender go, because those are always dramatic and usually quite photogenic. The men, however, some of them, are impossible to watch. I think of manly behaviour and how some of those creeps are behaving and it turns my stomach. I can't even pick a favourite, because every five second some moron does something repulsive and good thoughts disperse. Then again this was a commendable gamble. Considering most of the judges look like they really don't wanna be here.

... This is just painful O.o
